Pre-marriage, civil partnership and co-habiting counselling

Pre-marital counselling provides couples with tools, insights, and resources to navigate the challenges and joys of marriage/civil partnership and co-habiting more effectively. It can help foster a deeper understanding of each other and build a stronger, more resilient and more fulfilling relationship.

When a couple makes the decision to arrange a wedding, a civil partnership or co-habit, premarital counselling can help them explore their expectations, their plans for the future, and what might be involved when living and sharing their lives together. Individual styles of relating, which are often based on past family and life experiences, can be explored and understood. The counselling may include identifying the particular elements that their relationship needs to be a growing and fulfilling relationship.

With the aim of creating a healthy, trusting and secure base to the relationship, I offer those in committed relationships a 12 sessions package with the opportunity to explore their personal/couple needs as well as hopes and longings. I work collaboratively with the couple to empower them to explore areas of concerns and to work out on how to build a home together. Couples can consider their attitudes to a variety of important topics, including:

  • Enhancing communication

  • Intimacy, sex and sexuality

  • Conflict resolution

  • Expectations clarification

  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses

  • Family dynamics

  • Financial planning

  • Cultural and religious differences

  • Children and parenting

  • Goals and aspirations

Multicultural counselling

At the heart of multicultural counselling lies a commitment to honouring the diverse tapestry of human experience. I believe that each individual carries within them a unique blend of cultural backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences that shape their worldview and influence their journey toward healing and growth. My approach to counselling is rooted in cultural humility, recognizing that effective therapy requires a deep understanding of the intersecting layers of culture, identity, and social context that shape my clients' lives. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is inclusive, affirming, and responsive to the needs of individuals from all walks of life, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment as I navigate the complexities of cultural differences together. Through collaboration, compassion, and a commitment to social justice, I seek to promote healing, resilience, and transformation in a world where every voice is valued and every story is honoured.

Counselling FGM individuals and their partners

Counselling for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a vital aspect of both prevention and healing. FGM, a harmful practice with profound physical and psychological consequences, requires sensitive and culturally informed approaches to address its complexities. Counselling for individuals affected by FGM involves providing a safe and non-judgmental space for survivors to explore their experiences, process trauma, and navigate the myriad challenges they may face, including physical health issues, sexual dysfunction, and psychological distress. Additionally, counselling plays a crucial role in prevention efforts by raising awareness, challenging cultural norms that perpetuate FGM, and providing education on the health risks and human rights violations associated with the practice. Ultimately, counselling for FGM survivors and at-risk individuals serves as a beacon of support and empowerment, fostering healing, resilience, and advocacy for change.

LGBTQIA+ Counselling

Counselling for LGBTQIA+ individuals is an essential and affirming space where individuals can explore their identities, experiences, and concerns in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. It aims to foster self-acceptance, promote mental well-being, and address the unique challenges and societal pressures that may impact their lives. Through culturally competent and inclusive practices, counselling empowers LGBTQIA+ individuals to navigate their journey towards authenticity, resilience, and personal growth."
